This blog is a bit late but I'm still writing it.
I returned from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival after performing in it for 7 days with people from the Cherwell School. We stayed there for 10 days but only performed for 7, but still, 7's a lot. I performed, if you don't know and I haven't already said, in a play called Red Demon by Hideki Noda. It's a Japanese parable in which an outsider is washed up on the shore of a village; the villagers see this outsider as a stae beast, due to it's appearance. They mistreat it and end up sentencing it to death due to it being an outsider. The play was pretty racist but it was not as bad as it seemed, it involved some elegant and stunning movements involving tai-chi and tai-chi fanwork. We got 5 star reviews from friends and members of the public and a 4 star review from an actual journalist, which is pretty cool!
While not performing we advertised in Waverley Gardens just below the Scot Monument; we performed tai-chi movements in the park which attracted 100's if not 1000's of spectators, however, as awesome we looked not everyone came to the show, but still, we had over 50% of the venue filled out everyday, which is pretty good for first time performers at the fringe.
When we weren't performing or advertising, we went and saw pieces of theatre; some were awesome, some were good and one was bad. The first piece I saw was a piece called State of Matter which invloved 8 guys dancing around performing awesome stunts, it was pretty cool. When we bought our tickets we only had 5 mins to get from the fring box office to the Zoo venue, which was at least half a mile away, so we legged it there. I hadn't run that much in that short amount of time in ages, I got my first stich in ages, but we still made it!
Another piece we saw was a piece of awe-inspiring theatre called Fuerzabruta. This was literally the best piece of theatre I have ever seen. It was like a mini rave adn theatre mixed together; our senses were constantly bombarded, in a good way, no, in an awesome way!by the end of it, we walked out completely soaked, that was mainlly because we were told to stand in the middle in order to get the best view, and we did and we were drenched; but the piece was so awesome it didn't matter, it made us all that much happier! At the end everyone was dancing around to the amaizing music, I was dancing/jumping with everyone else. I somehow found myself with my arm around one of the performers jumping around with him, it was the best show I've ever seen and experienced, I would go back and see it in a heartbeat!
When we had to leave, everyone was sad, no one wanted to leave. We had so much fun with each other, we were so happy with one another. Before we left for Edinburgh, I didn't really know the cast, I knew all the people my age and the main characters and one or two year 12's but after Edinburgh, I feel like I've known everyone for years, because we've had so much fun together and went through such an experience together. I would gladly drop everything if I had the opportunity to go through it all over again.
And that's where I'm finnishing this blog, another will e posted as soon as I feel like it, or when I have time.
